These last couple of months me and my trusty X-System cameras have ventured into different photographic territories than my usual candid street environments. The reason for this, was at first beyond me. I didn’t give it much thought either… it was what it was. Then I started giving it some thought.
I’ve never really considered the X System cameras from Fujifilm to be made for landscape photography. I mean, they were made to resemble a rangefinders look. A camera type which is mainly used for street photography for reasons too many to list here.
I was, however pleasantly surprised to find out that the X cameras did very well for landscapes. Great dynamic range and tonality, as well as corner-to-corner pin sharp Fujinon lenses. While the cameras does fine, I, however, feel quite inadequate when shooting nature.
…..And that is just it…
I found, that this was the main reason why I suddenly started enjoying nature photography so much! I simply am WAAAY out of my comfort zone. It challenges me. Puts me through my creative paces, and gives me cold sweats when I come home with my files to look over.
This is exactly the same feeling that rush through my body when I have a great day on the street, trying not to get caught “stealing” that picture from unsuspecting walkabouts. Framing that perfect situation of interplay between man and city. Getting that insane fleeing moment caught in my little black box.
This has me wondering. Will my beloved street photography be enough for me? Will I shift focus to other areas?
Who knows 🙂 But for now, I still hit the streets….
