It’s that time of the year again. The annual gymnastics recital in our small town. Its a big thing in our family. Mainly because of the involvement of my better half. She does an amazing job. I’ve become quite fond of these annual meetups at the sportscenter. Seeing the girls evolve within a physical framework is quite giving.
I know its the same old song. “They grow up so fast” – But they really do. They really do. – I couldn’t be more proud when I see the look on their faces. They express such joy. Such freedom and bliss. It’s one of those minuscules that in reality is mastodontic in all its meaning.
These recitals has also seen its share of new Fujifilm gear over the past couple of years. Coincidentally Fujifilm always sends out stuff for testing over these spring months. Or at least they have done for the last 3 years. As a result I always bring the gear to the recital. It’s a really great testing ground for new camera and lens tech. – This year is a little different. I am in a state of mind these days where I constantly long for something new in the face of old.
I finished the paint job of my X-Pro1 “Silver Surfer” that I had originally sanded down. It was a pain to keep fresh looking because of metal corrosion. – So I decided on a paint job instead.
It dried up just in time for me to bring it. – It reminds me of how long Fujifilm has come in the last 6 years with the X series. But most importantly it reminded me of how it really doesn’t matter. The situations that give me such bliss from a day like today, is easily captured with a camera like the “old” X-Pro1 – And in the end, thats all that matters to me. That I can preserve these moments in time.

It really is impressive seeing gymnasts perform. Unlike other sorts, they do not have a ball, stick or bat or any other instrument. Their body is their tool which makes their talents all that more impressive. Great shots.
Nice to see the X-Pro1 given an outing. I traded mine when I got the X-T2 but still miss the feel of the rangefinder at times. Not sure I’d have risked the autofocus of the X-Pro1 for gymnastics but you captured the natural ‘feel’ of the day.
Great paint work, and still, excellent shots! Reviving the mighty X-pro1 is not easy,ehh? It’s a pity I trade mine for the X-pro2, but I think both x-pros are great for both worlds
Great post as always! I would like to know more how you did the paint job for the X-Pro1. Did you disassemble the body to sand and paint the camera or you just did it as is? And what kind of sandpaper and paint do you recommend in using, I’m very eager to try this one on my XE-2 myself to bring it new life from its dings and scratches. Thank you very much!
Great to see you still using the pro1 Jonas. Mine has had a recent revival since I got the 23mm f2. The speed of that lens has really transformed the camera and Im using it more and more again these days ….
